Sara Harrington, the newest member of the Averett Family Law Team, joined the firm in the summer of 2018 as an associate in the firm’s estate planning and probate practices. Sara is experienced in putting nervous clients at ease and guiding them through difficult and stressful times.
Since 2002 she’s been counseling and advocating for clients in consumer bankruptcy, estate planning and probate (estate administration). After 12 years of practicing primarily consumer bankruptcy law, Sara added estate planning and probate to her practice and it wasn’t long before it became her new love and primary area of practice. She loves getting to know her clients and helping them find the best solutions to estate planning issues and helping families navigate life after the loss of a loved one.
Sara grew up in Sanford, NC and graduated from Campbell University School of Law, where she was on the editorial board of the Campbell Law Observer, and from Wake Forest University with a Bachelors of Arts in English. Prior to becoming an attorney, she was Communications Director for the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council (now Carolina Coastal Pines).
She is admitted to practice in the North Carolina state courts, all Federal District Courts of North Carolina, and the United States Supreme Court. Sara is a member of the District 15B Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association.
When not hard at work to protect the final wishes and assets of her clients, she enjoys spending time with her niece, nephew and a teenager she mentors. She is very involved in the community and enjoys volunteering, exploring little know places of interest and documenting important moments through photography.
