Richard August, a founding partner of Russ August & Kabat, is the head of the transactional practice, with a focus on real estate and finance matters.
He has been AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell for the past 23 years, and was recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer by the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine from 2010-2014.
Mr. August's corporate and finance practice emphasizes the development and operation of large multifamily, industrial, shopping center, office and mixed use projects. Under Mr. August's direction, the firm's real estate practice covers all aspects of real estate development, including land use, construction, financing and the negotiating and preparation of joint venture agreements.
The firm's practice also includes leasing and management, title insurance, debt restructuring, loan workout as well as acquisition and disposition of real estate. The firm's real estate clients include financial institutions, escrow companies, developers, title insurance companies, institutional and private investors, construction companies and property management companies.
Mr. August has been an active member of the United Jewish Fund Real Estate and Construction Division Cabinet and was co-chair of the Commercial Outreach Program in 1991. From 1988 to 1991 Mr. August was on the Executive Committee of the Business Property Council and held the offices of executive vice president and secretary.
From 1974 to 1989, Mr. August was with the law firm of Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg & Phillips, and from 1975 to 1989 he was Chairman of the firm's Real Estate Department. From 1989 to 1991, Mr. August was a principal in Fried, King, Holmes & August.
Mr. August graduated from the University of Illinois as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Psi Chi national honor fraternities.
At USC Law School Mr. August was Note and Article Editor, Southern California Law Review, and Henry S. MacKay, Jr. Memorial Scholar, 1972-1974.
