Michelle came to me through Thomas Jefferson School of Law free legal aid as a volunteer. From day #1 she was on top of my case about the condo owner above mine whose unit flooded mine by a broken toilet tank. He refused to accept liability so my insurance had to step in, and $11,000 later there were still costs I had to pay out of pocket, roughly $3,000. After many notices for him to reimburse me, I sued in Small Claims Court. It took 1 1/2 years. Michelle came in three weeks before trial, met with me in her office, and gave me questions she would likely ask me in court. At trial, she asked, I responded confidently since I was well prepared, and the judge quickly began listing most of the amounts I requested. Michelle was a star, not wasting any words, and together we got a big WIN! I couldn’t have been in smarter hands! Thanks for all your help, Michelle!

Michelle assisted my family and I with legal aid regarding a landlord/tenant case. She listened to our case and paid close attention to the details we provided. We had previously visited other attorneys who did not provide us with the same amount of attention Michelle did. It is easy to communicate with her and I never had an issue trying to contact her via phone or email. At the end, she was able to help us resolve our issue in a timely manner and get us the results we wanted.

Michelle Patterson is a solo practitioner, practicing in areas of Bankruptcy, Debt Collection, Landlord-Tenant, Maritime Liens, and other various general areas of law. Michelle’s legal career began in 2009, prior to becoming a lawyer, in a large, multi-state law firm, handling high volume caseloads in the field of Bankruptcy, where she supported a team of attorneys who defended creditors and foreclosure trustees in Chapters 7, 13 and 11 litigation cases. Many of the cases she worked on involved allegations of violations of the Bankruptcy Code, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Her background and experience in a large law firm motivated Michelle to build her law practice with the goal of providing personalized legal services to tenants, individual residential landlords, debtors, and individual creditors, in the fields of Bankruptcy, Consumer Debt Relief, and Landlord-Tenant Disputes, by using her prior legal experience to help individuals get the peace of mind they need to help them solve their problems.
Michelle was raised in Southern California and has been a permanent resident of San Diego County since 2002. Her mother is a budget analyst and real estate investor, and her father is a yacht mechanic and boat surveyor. Hence, interest in multiple areas of law, ranging from debt to landlord-tenant, to maritime law. She earned her J.D. in 2016 at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and her B.A. in 2008 at San Diego State University. She is a member of the California State Bar and the Federal Bar in the Central and Southern Districts of California. She is also a member of the San Diego County Bar Association.
