I have been privileged to have the opportunity to work alongside Michael Gonzales my entire law school career. More specifically, I have worked with Michael the most with the Board of Barristers. The Board is composed of the top advocates of third-year law class who coach and judge first and second-year law students. To make the board you have to demonstrate excellence in Negotiations, Mock Trial, and Moot Court. Michael was an excellent advocate during his first two years of law school competitions and was ranked as a top ten advocate in our entire class. He advanced in nearly every competition he competed in and we faced off numerous times in final rounds. One final judge noted that Michael had the most passion he had even seen in a law school advocate during a final moot court round. What makes Michael's success in Board competitions even more astonishing is his tireless effort on the Business & Bankruptcy Law Journal at the same time where he is now Editor in Chief. He was able to succeed in his second-year by managing his time and organizing his work schedule to effectively accomplish the most. During Michael's third-year he has been an active member on the Board of Barristers as a strong coach and judge of second and first year law students. Michael has an incredible ability to explain complex legal issues and develop strategy for first and second year law students. Michael has been a strong mentor and inspires advocates to do well in all Board competitions. He is also one of our most well respected judges in each competition. Michael prepares thoroughly for each competition he judges and is regularly consulted with by the exec committee as a highly regarded board member. His time and dedication to the Board of Barristers has made it a stronger organization going forward. Michael's ability to manage his heavy workload and balance his leadership positions will prepare him well for any legal position in the future.
It is my pleasure to add my highest recommendation of Michael Gonzales. Michael was a classmate of mine at Texas Tech University School of Law. I worked closely with Michael in my capacities on the Board of Barristers and the Business & Bankruptcy Law Journal. In both regards, his work stands out among his peers. First, I will note that Michael has served as an active member of the distinguished Board of Barristers, a student group consisting of the most-accomplished third-year advocates, which administers eight in-school competitions a year in negotiation, mock trial, and moot court. Membership is a very high honor in it of itself, as Tech Law's advocacy program ranks in the top 25 nationally. Michael has excelled as an oral advocate, having reached the final round in two consecutive intraschool moot court competitions and being named a top oralist in each. Second, I will attest to his superior legal research, writing, and analysis skills for his work on the Business & Bankruptcy Law Journal. In my role of Editor in Chief of Volume 2, I had the pleasure of working with Michael as a Staff Member. Membership on the Journal is very demanding, as each Member is responsible for editing professional articles for citations, grammar, punctuation, and style; and for authoring a scholarly law review student comment that must be of publishable quality. Not only did Michael excel on every task that was required of him, but he enthusiastically sought after additional duties and responsibilities to assist in the operation of the Journal. I was so impressed by Michael's motivation and work ethic that I did not hesitate to appoint him as my successor as Editor in Chief of Volume 3. Although Michael has an excellent student board of editors with whom to work, he has diligently embraced his leadership role and responsibilities as the nonprofit's chief executive and operating officer in every respect--from addressing financial challenges to establishing relationships with authors, other journals, and the Law School administration. I take comfort in knowing that Michael has done an excellent job of continuing to build on the foundation laid by prior boards and has met the perpetual challenges of a student-managed journal. Michael's work ethic, academic, and other law school activities have well prepared him for the types of challenges that he will encounter in any high-level legal endeavor. He is a highly motivated, bright, hard-working and mature individual, who has demonstrated outstanding character together with an exceptional ability to analyze and communicate complex legal issues. But perhaps the best endorsement I can offer is that Michael is the type of person and lawyer with whom I would choose to work and upon whom I would not hesitate to rely.
I have worked with Michael on several important projects. He has shown to be an excellent leader, project manager, and innovator. He sets high goals, but obtainable, while inspiring the group by facilitating ideation. His leadership role has caused Law and Technology Association, an organization dedicated to educating upcoming lawyers on how to implement technology to become more efficient, to be a great success. Michael's leadership skills, communication, and work ethic have been a great asset to the organization, and I would recommend him for your firm.
I requested Michael to assist me in composing a response to a motion to suppress. Michael researched the topic and then wrote a concise, accurate, and persuasive document for me to incorporate into my response. The memo he wrote for me showed legal research writing skills as well as advocacy skills. I incorporated most of his work product verbatim.
I had the pleasure of working with Michael as a digital channel underwriter. Michael is a bright, analytical, and efficient worker. His communication and leadership skills were apparent very early on and I would consider him to be an asset to any team. Michael has a unique set of soft skills, along with technical aptitude that can be leveraged in a multitude of roles.
I highly recommend Michael. I was his Senior Underwriter while he was on the e-Underwriting and Property Performance teams at USAA from Nov 2012 - Aug 2013. He was responsible for monitoring the performance of USAA's P&C insurance products on the digital channels from an Underwriting prospective. Michael uncovered a defect with our mobile MVR handling which had a huge impact on rating and he set up web analytic reporting for a few of our innovation products. He worked closely on auditing our entire property line of business to determine if the structure was within our Underwriting guidelines. When Michael was giving a task he needed little supervision and he always met his deadlines. He has excellent communication skills and not afraid to ask those follow-up questions to ensure that the job gets done. Michael would be a tremendous asset for your company and has my highest recommendation.
Michael is an excellent worker who is deeply passionate about learning and using his business knowledge to perform at a high level. He was a great asset on a project that he helped me on and proactively went over and above what was expected of him.
Michael is a shining example of the ideal team member. He is exceptionally bright, well spoken, and adept to handle multiple responsibilities in a busy environment. I had the pleasure of recruiting him to Solar San Antonio and I can say without a doubt that his superior combination of strengths are what lifted him from other applicants also vying for our competitive internship program. During his tenure with our organization, Michael took charge on a multitude of projects including policy research, securing event sponsorships, and representing Solar San Antonio at constituency events. His contributions to our organization had a direct impact on our program successes. His hard work and diligence set the standard to which all future intern participants will be held accountable for. I am happy to recommend Michael for any position requiring dedication and leadership - he is sure to create commendable results.
It's my pleasure to recommend Michael to you as one of the hardest working, intelligent and accomplished students in my class. He was always interested in understanding the reasons behind the rules and had an intellectual curioustiy that is refreshing to find. He voluntarily shadowed me for a day to learn about the life of a trial attorney and asked perceptive and probing questions throughout. I am confident that he will do well in any field he chooses to pursue. It was no surprise that he earned top student honors in my class.
Michael volunteered his time at the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office by assisting in the preparation of felony narcotics cases for presentation to grand jury. Michael readily completely any task given to him, even going so far as to offer to work on weekends to reduce our massive caseload. His work was superior to our paid law school intern. I am confident that he can undertake any duty presented to him.
