Practice area: Trusts, Estate planning, Wills and living wills
We met with Martha to do our estate plan because we have a child. She walked us through understanding every legal detail about our needs and what the plan sets up for us and out little one's future. The best part about her offering over other estate planners is the legacy video. She walks you through an interview to leave to your kids about the things you want them to know about you and about life. It was a touching experience and we are so glad that we did it.
We hired Hartney Law to do estate planning for us. They created a revocable living trust, an IRA trust, wills, powers of attorney, healthcare documents, and protection plans and guardianship for our children. They send out a financial questionnaire to get started, and we had a free initial consultation (about one hour) to go over this and our needs. We later had an in-depth interview and planning session (about two hours), and later a signing session to go over and sign all the prepared documents (about two hours). Hartney Law works on a flat-fee basis, and is available for clarifications at no further charge. You also get a free review of your plan every three years (they do charge for revisions if needed). Their principal attorney Martha Hartney and their front-office person Amy Dunbar-Wallis are meticulous and easy to work with. Our situation is not especially complicated, but it had some tricky aspects, and Martha was very alert to these and guided us through them. The firm's specialty is estate planning and that seems to be most of their business, but they also do some family and small business law. We were very pleased with their work. Martha has some very good videos on their web site about the importance of planning and about some of the parts that take extra care to understand and carry out. They also do frequent free presentations around Boulder, although we did not attend any of these; see their web site for schedules.
I cannot recommend Martha enough - if you need a will, trust etc and especially if there are children involved, Martha is THE person to go to. Martha took the time to explain all the legal jargon and more importantly the implications of not having these documents in place. Our situation was more complicated than most (assets overseas) and Martha took the time to research UK and US inheritance laws to make sure we and our children were protected everywhere. Even after our documents were in place the excellent care and service continued as Martha provided updated pages following changes in US law that were effected after we had signed the originals.
I don't compose recommendations unless I truly believe what I am to write about the individual. Martha deserves such a review. Martha is a top-flight attorney, one I am proud to call a colleague. Martha epitomizes professionalism in every aspect of the attorney-client process. She treats her clients in an educational, kind, respectful manner. I am confident when I send a referral her way that the individual is in excellent hands. Martha is my go-to when my clients desire estate planning needs. Highly recommended attorney - does things the right way.
