Practice area: Family, Divorce and separation, Criminal defense
Laurin was hired to defend my Spouse in a Criminal case, she would not return any of our calls during the case. She seemed to be working with the District Attorney and not for us. Laurin would show up to court at the last minute, and could not remember any of the important elements of his case when presenting to the judge. She shouted at my husband and judged him for his past and not his present and even walked out on him after court in the middle of a conversation. She would not go over any thing from the case with neither one of us and told me she didn't have to talk to me. When ever I called her office her Secretary would say she is not in and will return your call when she comes in, Laurin would never call. When we asked her to file motions in court she would ignore the both of us. I then re-hired another attorney, all motions were filed and my husband was released and found not guilty of all charges. If we didn't changes lawyers my spouse would remain in a prison today found guilty for something he did not do. I am sure Laurin is good in other areas but not recommended for Criminal defense.
I hired Laurin to represent me in a child support case. In the beginning I felt confident that things would play out in my favor, but that slowly diminished over time. While I know that no one ever is exempt from paying child support, I felt that there was more that could have been done in my case. I did not feel she was listening to me during our initial appointment while going over all my concerns. On each court date, she was often running in at the last minute. I felt she should have been there early enough to go over what was taking place on that day. One court appointment she was very late. My scheduled court time had come and gone and she still wasn't there. I called her office and was told by the secretary that Laurin was headed to a different client but would be on the way. I was told by the judge that I could reschedule for another date or represent myself. I asked for a few more minutes so I could call Laurin's office. At that time, no one answered the phone even though only minutes later I spoke with her secretary. Finally, she showed up and said she was double booked. Basically, I paid a substantial amount of money to Laurin, only to be told by the judge, that I was going to be paying money. There was lack of interest in what I was telling Laurin regarding my situation and my complaint. I felt we went into the court house, flying by the seat of our pants. The information that she took from me as I was explaining to her was wrong. When we went into court Laurin started to fight for me, only to retract and say "we can probably settle this." I do not feel that anything that happened during all the different court dates were ever in my favor or best interest.
