Joel is an up and comer and is fully versed on digital media, 3D printing and more. Even better, he's always there when you need someone to watch your back, review complicated legal docs and more. If you own startup, call Joel immediately.
Joel did exceptional work while serving on the law school's admissions committee.
Joel is honest and hardworking. He is methodical and pays attention to details. Joel handled the project manager role at UW Entrepreneurial Law Clinic professionally. As the main contact with the client, he made sure to address the client needs. It was a pleasure working with Joel.
I have had the good fortune of spending time with Joel in undergraduate studies, law school, and now at the Municipal League of King County as a fellow board member. In each of these settings Joel has proved to be a valuable asset. He is intelligent, a natural leader, and someone I would happily work with on any project. He has also shown an impressive ability to deal with problems, both in practical settings and in the various mediation competitions in which he has excelled. Joel is the type of colleague that makes you feel proud to be part of the same group, and I would encourage anyone that has the opportunity to work with him to do so.
Joel is a strong leader who inspires people to work together. I have seen people attend events and agree to work on projects based solely on Joel's reputation among his peers as someone who gets results. Best of all, he enjoys what he does and it really shows.
Joel and I took several classes together at UW Law School. I learned three things about Joel in those classes: (1) he is a hard worker; (2) he is a dependable team player; and, (3) Joel not only understands corporate and securities law, but he can explain it clearly in layman's terms. I hope to work on a team with Joel again in the future.
Joel was an efficient, detail-oriented worker who consistently produced high quality work product. He was also extremely responsible and a pleasure to work with as well.
Joel took my course on Shanghai in the summer of 2005. He was a highly motivated student and a leader of class discussions and group activities. Joel organized a group project around alternative energy technology research and development projects in Shanghai and conducted extensive on-site research, and he and his fellow students communicated the results in highly entertaining and memorable presentation.
11/28/08 To Whom It May Concern: Joel is a responsible and conscientious individual who, as a legal assistant, has managed to streamline a database of SEC regulations, news releases, and relevant reports. Joel has worked with a number of partners specializing in securities and broker-dealer regulation and, judging from their feedback, has performed exceptionally well. Joel's teamworking, organizational, and time management skills have made Joel stand out among other legal assistants. He completed his assignments in a timely fashion and the accuracy of his work product has been impeccable. Joel also mastered legal research skills utilizing Lexis and Westlaw detabases on a regular basis. Knowledge of these datbases is an essential requirement for a modern lawyer -- anyone I knew thought Joel could be relied on to deliver fast research results on the assigned topic in broker-dealer and securities regulation. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Joel to anyone looking to hire him. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions. Best regards, Viktor Chistyakov v_chistyakov@yahoo.com
Prior to attending law school, Joel Emans worked as a Legal Assistant in the Financial Institutions Group at Davis Polk, where I am a Partner. Based on my experience working closely with Joel for two years, I believe that he is an extremely bright, energetic and hard working person. All of Joel's assignments were handled thoughfully, and with care. Joel was curious about the subject matter of his work (financial regulation), and has a good eye for detail. He was also well liked by all of the attorneys and Legal Assistants with whom he worked. In addition to his strong professional qualities, Joel is articulate, personable and professional. He is also an interesting person to talk with and has many strong interests outside of the law. In summary, I believe that Joel will be an outstanding attorney and a fine addition to any law firm or legal department.
I am pleased to recommend Joel Emans. He is an outstanding student leader for the international law student organization at the law school. He has been active in partnering with the Career Planning Office in its events and activities promoting professional development for all students. He is also a good team member and very creative in developing approaches to situations. Most of all, he has initiative and follow-through and excellent interpersonal skills.
Joel was the senior legal assistant in the Broker-Dealer/Market Regulation unit of the Financial Institutions Group at Davis Polk & Wardwell when I joined the group in April of 2007 and was key to my successful transition to the firm. Joel organized all of the practice resources and market updates relevant to our practice and made it possible for me to both quickly get up to speed in the group and focus on client work. I was always confident that Joel was tracking the newest SEC and FINRA news and bringing it to the group's attention. In addition to the practice resource function Joel helped me managed a number of major projects for clients. A majority of the group's work at the time was focused on high-level mergers between multiple regulated financial institutions. The work required managing a number of filings and deadlines with various regulators. The work required organization and attention to detail. Joel made these large projects possible to with his organization and focus. Finally, besides having the basic skills that are typical of a successful young lawyer (organization, attention to detail and clear communication) Joel showed more interest in the law than almost any lawyer with whom I have worked. When we had down time Joel would often find his way to my office and we would discuss not only the projects at hand but the policy and logic behind the law. Major law firms are filled with people who have the ability to do the complex work a lawyer, do their jobs well and hate every moment of their time at work. Joel is not one of those people. He was actively interested in the things he worked on and the policy, politics and business realities behind every deal and clearly enjoyed what he did. I would not hesitate to recommend Joel for any job or to work with him again. Regards, Timothy J. Welsh
