I worked with Jeff Merrick in the mid-1990s. I had many opportunities to observe his legal abilities and work ethic. And I was impressed! Mr. Merrick consistently won his cases, and was the highest earner for the law firm that employed us. Then, in 2004 I was involved in a car accident, and had broken bones and spinal injuries. In 2005, someone else crashed into my car, and the ultimate result was I needed three major surgeries, and about 17 minor surgeries. When my insurance company refused to honor their obligations for uninsured and underinsured car crashes, I knew that Jeff would be the best attorney for my case. And he was! He worked many hours to understand my medical records and injuries. He very ably defended me against my insurance company's attacks. And because of his superior legal skills, he was able to craft the lawsuit so that my insurance company had to pay his attorney fees, and I was able to keep the entire jury award. And the judge told the insurance company attorney that he would have awarded me even more money based on Mr. Merrick's case presentation. I think Jeffrey Merrick did an excellent job fighting for my rights, and would hire him again in an instant.
Mr. Merrick repesented me in a discrimination case against a former employer. I always knew Jeff truly cared for me and my case. Mr. Merrick always returned any phone calls or emails right away. I knew that he was fighting for me. I could not of asked for a better attorney. Jeff made a really tough time so much easier.
I hired Jeff as my attorney when I was a plantiff in an employment lawsuit in 2006. He was knowledgeable in employment law, aggressive in a very professional manner, and knew the resources to draw from to enhance my case. We did not go to trial due to other circumstances and was forced to settle, something out of my control, another story. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Merrick to anyone. Thank you Jeff for all your help and support during those times. I only wish you were compensated to the extent you deserved.
I love the law, and I love helping people seek justice and closure.
An attorney since 1984, I have fought for people on cases both simple and complex. I’ve taken depositions with 42 other attorneys in the room on nationally-important cases. In Oregon, I’ve stood against a dozen defense attorneys in some of the most complex cases ever seen here. These days, I realize I’ve been reading the law longer than some of my adverse attorneys have been breathing air.
I tried to retire in 2004. I volunteered for the Audubon Society and other organizations. I returned to law school for advanced law degree and taught at the law school. Then, I decided I liked practicing law more than teaching it. So, I returned to practice.
Since 2012, I have worked as a mediator, also. Considering that most cases never make it to trial and are resolved through mediation or negotiation, my mediator work gives me insight and skills that help my law clients.
In 2016, I retired a second time. Again, after two years, the pull to helping people through litigation and negotiation was too strong, and I rebooted my law practice in 2018.
Over the decades, my civil litigation included many areas of law. This time around, I am focusing on claims against employers (discrimination / harassment / retaliation) and other lawyers (legal malpractice). I help parents sue on behalf of their children for personal injury (car wrecks, medical malpractice, school injuries) and abuse claims, which I call “Pediatric Law.” If a liquor establishment causes harm by overserving someone alcohol, I canl talk you through your options. I will sue the government and public employees for civil rights claims and to obtain public records.
I limit my practice so that I will devote the right amount of time and attention to each client.
Whether or not we work together, I wish you the best of luck with whatever problem makes you search for an attorney.
