Eric is a stellar individual. Top of his class. An incredible intellect with wide-spanning knowledge and expertise. Incredibly hard working and passionate about teaching, learning, and helping.
Eric is an outstanding professional. His background in law, combined with his business acumen and expertise working with technology companies and startups of all kinds makes him an extremely valuable resource and an asset to any team.
Mensch is the word that comes to mind when describing Eric. He's a class act all the way. Super knowledgeable, high integrity, reliable, very helpful. I learned a lot from taking his workshop at Bootup Ventures.
Eric delivered an outstanding presentation as 20 lucky students from the University of Birmingham, including me, visited BootUp this week. His communication skills, his experience and his passion inspired all of us and taught us a lot about entrepreneurship, startups and business in general. He gave us invaluable advices that will help us develop our mindset, think more smartly and avoid mistakes when starting or getting into any business. It was truly rewarding and I am grateful for that.
Eric is great! I've been going to tons of meetups/reading lots of books/articles but he succinctly summarized everything in a few min so was inspired his flow. Appreciate him and highly recommend!
Learning from Eric is a challenging yet incredibly helpful experience, since he's not afraid to ask the right and necessary questions. His inspiring confidence and deep knowledge is strongly influencing my work in the company. Thanks a ton!
Eric is a great mind and it is exciting to listen and to work with him. What I learned about startups from him within one hour I didn‘t learn by all the books I read before. His questions hit the point and make you really think. I‘m very happy that I met him and from our work I take a lot of inspiration with me. Thank you.
Eric did an extraordinary job with us during our Bootup Ventures Bootcamp. He did an excellent job of taking our startups to the next level. Thank you Eric for your mentorship and advise.
Eric provided the structure and the glue that made my week at BootUp Ventures entirely worthwhile. His demeanor and confident knowledge of the full range of topics critical to entrepreneurial success made the learning experience a great pleasure while bringing great value to me and my company.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Eric at BootUP's Pitch Events. Each time I've spoken with him he is: honest, kind, and genuine. He listens attentively and actively. He gives his raw opinions with respect and gives helpful and appropriate feedback. He's not afraid to let you know where you need to improve (which is amazing) because he really does want you to achieve your goals. I have extreme stage fright. I gave my first pitch ever (1 minute) last night and it was a total disaster (in my eyes, no matter how many times people told me I did well). Eric was on the panel of investors and acknowledged where my mistakes were, but also told me to relax. How we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us talking is completely different. There were other speakers (many 1-minute pitches and few 4-minute pitches) and he did the same for everyone. I look forward to the next time I pitch in-front of Eric, because I know he's not going to belittle me while helping me.
We met Eric within our acceleration program in SF. His ideas were inspiring and had a lot of important details. In a half an our presentation, he conveyed the key points about leading a startup, moving it in the US market, from both business and legal aspects. I had a chance to get his opinions about my startup which focusses on making high quality simple and available everywhere. Suggestions of his were specific and helpful. P.S: He is a great speaker.
I had the honor of getting to know Eric recently. He's energetic, passionate about helping others, and possesses a truly genuine character. He's a jack of many trades and has the uncanny ability to help you no matter the situation - there simply isn't a problem that Eric can't help with! I'm looking forward to continue working closely with Eric. He's someone you definitely want to get to know!
I had a chance to witness how sharp Eric is as he was sitting in a jury for a "BootUP" startup pitch competition. Not only did he point out in "some surgical manner" where and how presenters can improve but he also shared his feedback a very gentle and respectful way - a true invitation for presenters to develop and improve their overall performance. Bravo!
Eric is much more than a traditional lawyer. He approaches problems from an entrepreneurial and business perspective. He helped us balance the needs of our business, our desire to move quickly and make sure we did the right thing (both legally and ethically). Eric helped us formalize my company's corporate structure, which laid the foundation for growth. He was immensely helpful in identifying weaknesses in our approach and provided invaluable guidance about how to shape the company in a way that allowed us to grow into a more sophisticated enterprise. He took the time to truly understand what we wanted to accomplish and explained legal concepts and different options in simple, practical terms. I would recommend Eric to any startup or growing company that is looking for legal guidance and business perspective.
Eric advises emerging companies on legal and strategic matters by helping founders fine tune their business models and corporate structures, evaluate partnership opportunities, negotiate and execute agreements, and position companies for growth. He co-founded Talis Partners because he wanted to work more closely with founders to provide general legal guidance as well as strategic business perspective to help start-ups grow. He is an ideal advisor for innovative startups.
Prior to co-founding Talis Partners, Eric was an associate at two major law firms, Cooley and Kirkland & Ellis. Previously, he held several positions in government, the private sector and nonprofit organizations, including working for the White House, U.S. Department of State, two federal judges, LaFrance Corporation, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Support Center for Child Advocates.
In his free time, Eric enjoys hiking, painting, yoga, and exploring global cuisine. Eric also co-chairs the Redwood City Downtown Neighborhood Association and volunteers with at-risk youth.
