Eric is one of the federal appellate attorneys in the US. He has a mind like laser. As his summer clerk in 1999, I learned a great deal from his deep approach to federal civil litigation and complex litigation. Eric taught me that a clerk, law student or lawyer should never give up when searching for a solution to legal problems or favorable answers to legal issues. Tenaciousness, creativity and brilliance combined with love of the law represent what's best in our profession.

About

For more than two decades my practice has focused on civil appeals in federal court. I have briefed and argued appeals before all but three of the thirteen federal appellate circuit courts, and have participated in briefing several cases on the merits before the United States Supreme Court. I also have filed numerous amicus curiae briefs, often on behalf of institutional investors supporting honest securities markets, as well as on behalf of religious organizations and faith leaders supporting religious liberty and equal rights for all. My pro bono work seeking to advance religious liberty and civil rights has been recognized with awards from the Unitarian Universalist Association, St. Paul's Foundation for International Reconciliation, the American Constitution Society's San Diego Lawyer Chapter, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, and San Diego's Democrats for Equality.
