Dmitriy is a dedicated, outgoing self-starter that prides himself on his ability to build relationships effortlessly with others. I had the pleasure of working with Dmitriy throughout many shared undergraduate courses at Washington State University - Vancouver. He consistently had an active voice in lecture reflections, adding valuable comments to class and small group discussions. As Dmitriy and I developed a professional relationship, I became increasingly impressed with his work ethic. He was able to maintain a top 5 percent standing in our shared courses while concurrently working a full-time job; making it seem effortless. Time management, leadership, critical thinking, and professionalism are among the many strengths Dmitriy holds.
Dmitriy is an associate attorney on Bill Taffee’s team focusing on Commercial Liability Defense.
During law school, Dmitriy was active in seeking out opportunities to diversify his range of practical experience. During his first year, Dmitriy volunteered as an articles clerk for the National Crime Victims Law Institute, where he researched and summarized recent developments in crime victim rights. In the summer of 2015, Dmitriy was a judicial extern at the Marion County Circuit Court with Judge Dennis Graves. Dmitriy assisted with drafting legal opinions, including an opinion on complex legal issues surrounding statutory interpretation in a class-action dispute. Dmitriy’s externship at the state court dovetailed well with his federal externship under Judge Robert E. Jones in the fall of 2015. Here, Dmitriy drafted judicial orders and opinions on motions for summary judgment and appeals from SSI/SSDI disability determination. In addition, he conducted a great deal of legal research on §1983 Civil Rights claims and federal sentencing guidelines in this position.
Dmitriy was also a student research assistant to Professor Samir Parikh, where he researched Bankruptcy Code case law for the updated edition of the Bloomberg Law Bankruptcy Treatise. Dmitriy also spent over a year as a law clerk at a firm that represents homeowner associations. As a law clerk, he assisted with all stages of litigation, including a two-day jury trial that resulted in a jury verdict in favor of the homeowner association.
Aside from gaining practical experience, Dmitriy found that being involved in day-to-day activities at his law school to be a very rewarding experience. As a student liaison to the Lewis & Clark Alumni Association Board of Directors, Dmitriy voiced student concerns and law school updates at board meetings. He was the Treasurer and later served as the President of the Business Law Society. Dmitriy was also the Vice President of the Jewish Legal Society, where he worked with the Jewish legal community to arrange a successful networking event between law students and attorneys. In his final year of law school, Dmitriy served as an upper division mentor to incoming first-year law students as part of Lewis & Clark Law School’s peer mentorship program.
