Practice area: Construction and development, Government contracts
Diane certainly helped cut through the preconceptions and mumbo-jumbo and was extremely helpful educating and coaching me in my first deposition for a very contentious construction contract agreement dispute.
In 2007 and 2008 the construction firm for whom I worked as HR Manager had an employment claim filed by a former employee who felt he was wrongly classified as a non-exempt employee. In our relationship with the law firm, Diane started in a supporting role but saw her role in the case expand when the lead attorney left to join another firm. Diane clearly understood the world of construction and showed the capability to apply employment law principles to the realities of construction work. Diane was always well-prepared and had examined every possible detail of the case prior to a meeting or hearing. As my company's representative for this case, I had complete confidence in Diane's work, which then provided good reason to have confidence in her legal opinions. I found Diane to be very professional and personable while also showing consideration toward our running legal costs. This combination is sometimes rare among attorneys. I recommend Diane completely.
Diane is terrific, very smart and very hard working. She is my go to Attorney.
Diane served as an attorney on a wage and hour lawsuit that ended in summary judgment in my company's favor. Diane brings outstanding expertise within the construction field and blends that knowledge with legal training and hard work. As a client, I felt very confident in her abilities and enjoyed spending time with her. The result is an excellent attorney that you can like, too. It is hard to beat that combination and I wholeheartedly recommend her work.
I first met Diane through the Moot Court interview process at Seattle University. As its leader, she was unusually professional, gracious, and helpful. Even for a (then to be) lawyer, she is incredibly well spoken, professional, and poised. I suspect her clients enjoy working with her very much. I did!
Law, and more specifically, construction litigation, is my second career. I spent almost 10 years as a member of the management teams on commercial construction projects that ranged in size from $1.5M to $125M. I have worked on construction projects in the states of IN, IL, CO, CA, OR, and WA and held positions ranging from estimator to field engineer to project manager over the course of my field experience. I've been extremely fortunate to work on technical and complicated projects such as hospitals, jail and court facilities, winery additions, and remodels of existing structures through both competitively bid, lump sum contracts as well as negotiated, guaranteed maximum price delivery methods.
I also spent approximately 5 years prior to law school working as an in-house construction consultant for a Seattle law firm that focused on construction litigation. As a consultant, I worked with the attorneys as well as fact and expert witnesses in the development of claims and litigation strategies.
Since graduating from law school, I have continued the focus of my career on the construction industry through the representation of general contractors, owners, and sureties. I have tried cases to juries, arbitration panels and judges and have achieved success in each forum. When I first meet with a client, I strive to understand the client's specific goals related to the dispute as well as the overall business plan so we can collaborate on the proper strategy for the long term, which sometimes involves more creative alternatives to litigation.
I am licensed in Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. I am also a trained mediator and arbitrator.
